Ukraine is creating cheap missiles to shoot down “Shaheeds”: what is known about the new air defense system

Ukraine, on behalf of President Volodymyr Zelensky, is working on creating cheap interceptor missiles to combat Russian kamikaze drones of the “Shahed” type. Some of the technical solutions have already been developed and are currently undergoing active testing.
This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov during a meeting with journalists.
According to him, the main idea of the project is to reduce the cost of air defense and not waste expensive missiles from Western systems on mass-produced cheap drones.
“Following the president’s instructions, we are now focused on creating cheap missiles to shoot down drones. We have already found solutions that are close to being ready and have begun testing them,” Fedorov noted.
He added that the new interceptor missiles should work together with interceptor drones and strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure. According to the minister, the state already supports this direction through grants and expanded production.
“Our task is to scale production dozens of times and have a stock of such missiles for the autumn-winter period,” said Fedorov.
