Ukrainian company BlueBird Tech has announced the start of development of its own anti-aircraft missile system capable of intercepting drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. The development is intended to reduce Ukraine’s dependence on foreign Patriot systems and missiles.

This is reported by Defense Express .

According to the publication, BlueBird Tech, a company specializing in the production of electronic warfare systems, drone detectors, and FPV drones, has opened a rocketry development division. One of the key projects will be the creation of its own anti-aircraft missile system.

The material notes that the new complex should be capable of intercepting not only drones and cruise missiles, but also ballistic targets. Thus, we are talking about a system that could potentially perform functions similar to the American Patriot.

Journalists note that such an initiative is in line with President Volodymyr Zelensky’s strategy for developing Ukrainian air defense systems. One of the reasons for the activation of this direction is the global shortage of MSE missiles for Patriot.

The company is not currently disclosing the technical specifications of the future complex. At the same time, BlueBird Tech has already begun searching for engineers and specialized specialists to work on the project.

Defense Express analysts point out that the company has no experience in rocketry, so creating such a complex will be a complex, lengthy, and expensive process.

The material also explains that to intercept ballistic missiles, it is necessary to create a powerful radar station for detecting and tracking targets, as well as a high-precision interceptor missile with an active homing system.

In addition, the rocket must have the ability to maneuver at high speeds and be equipped with a powerful solid-fuel engine. Journalists note that to implement such a project, the company will likely have to cooperate with other Ukrainian and foreign manufacturers.

“The start of the development of such a high-tech anti-aircraft missile system by a company that previously produced only FPV drones and electronic warfare systems raises not unfounded skepticism. We are unlikely to see the results of their work in the near future,” the analysts noted.

Recall that Ukraine is launching a new level of so-called “small” air defense with the ability to remotely control interceptor drones.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine lacks air defense systems and missiles for them, and their supply could run out any week depending on the intensity of Russian attacks.

The day before, the US began to postpone the delivery of weapons to its European allies. This affected even weapons under already signed and paid contracts . The reason was that its own stocks were rapidly decreasing against the backdrop of several conflicts at the same time.
