Ukraine is ready to join the EU, but there are important conditions

The European Union is convinced that Ukraine is ready to fulfill all the necessary conditions for accession to the EU.

This was stated by the Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine , Katarína Mathernová , in an interview with “Censor.NET”.

“I think everyone sees that Ukraine is ready to fulfill the conditions for joining the EU,” Maternova noted.

According to her, the European Commission believes that Ukraine was ready to begin this stage of negotiations a year ago.

“To take this step, we needed to achieve the appropriate unanimity and consensus among the member states. This involves adopting a very complex set of laws and regulations, and this is not an easy task. As I always say, the process will not be linear. But I think my colleagues are convinced that Ukraine is certainly capable of doing this,” she stressed.

The diplomat also noted that “mobilization of the Council is possible” to further advance the negotiation process.

“Several important laws were adopted. The budget and a Council resolution were also approved, which emphasizes the need to pay special attention to legislation related to European integration,” Maternova concluded.

Earlier, “Pryamiy” reported that the EU has already agreed to open five clusters in the negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. The preliminary date for the start of this stage is July 14.

All EU Member States also supported the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union. This decision paves the way for a new phase of the negotiation process on the future membership of both countries in the EU.
