The Ukrainian power system experiences a capacity deficit of about 1 gigawatt during peak electricity consumption . As a result , consumption restrictions are applied in some regions .

This was reported by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal.

According to him , the system experiences the greatest load during peak consumption hours .

Currently, the capacity deficit in the Ukrainian power system during peak consumption hours is about 1 GW,” the minister noted .

The stability of the power system is partly ensured by electricity imports from the European Union , which currently cover approximately 12% of daily consumption.

Imports continue and account for about 12% of total consumption during the day, thanks to which we are better able to maintain the situation during peak load hours ,” the government official explained .

Shmyhal added that energy companies are actively restoring generation after the Russian attacks. At the same time, the authorities are betting on the development of distributed generation.

During the full-scale war , such capacities have already added about 1.5 GW to the power system . The government plans to launch another 1.5 GW of distributed generation by 2026 thanks to preferential lending programs for businesses and citizens.

It was previously reported that as of the morning of March 13, consumers in six regions of Ukraine were without power due to Russian attacks.
