Ukraine and the European Union may open two negotiating clusters as early as June as part of the EU accession process.

Radio Liberty reported this, citing an internal document from the EU Council.

It is noted that the expansion of the negotiation process became possible thanks to progress in consultations between Ukraine and Hungary on the rights of the Hungarian national minority.

It was the positive dynamics in relations with Budapest that allowed the European side to consider opening not one, but two negotiation clusters at once.

The intergovernmental conference is tentatively scheduled for June 15 in Luxembourg . However, the EU notes that the schedule is not yet final and may change depending on the progress of the negotiations.

The document also notes that the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU confirmed its intention to hold intergovernmental conferences in the General Affairs Council in June, but allows for the possibility of last-minute adjustments.

The opening of new negotiation clusters will be another step on Ukraine’s path to full membership in the European Union.
