Ukraine may face a shortage of funds to pay pensions as early as October if the state does not receive the agreed financial assistance from international partners on time. Financial expert Serhiy Fursa stated this risk.
He said this while commenting on the situation with financing the state budget and Ukraine’s fulfillment of international obligations.
According to Fursa, the partners have already agreed to allocate about $29 billion to Ukraine. However, in order to receive these funds, the Verkhovna Rada must adopt a number of legislative changes stipulated by agreements with international partners.
The expert noted that a delay in making the necessary decisions could delay the flow of funds to Ukraine and create problems with financing public expenditures.
“We already have $29 billion on the table that we should receive, but so far we cannot receive it,” Fursa said.
According to him, if the parliament does not pass the necessary bills and Ukraine does not receive the agreed funding, the shortage of funds may be felt as early as October. In particular, the expert speaks of the risk to timely financing of pensions.
Fursa emphasized that the problem is not the lack of agreements with partners, but the need to fulfill the conditions on which the receipt of already agreed funds depends.
At the same time, the expert also drew attention to the formation of the budget for next year, but noted that the priority now remains the issue of financing current state expenditures.
