Ukraine plans to create a Language Policy Coordination Headquarters: why is the body needed?

Olena Ivanovska, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, announced preparations for the creation of a Coordination Council for Language Policy in Ukraine. The new body plans to involve representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Security and Defense Council, and relevant ministries.
She spoke about this on the air of “Kyiv24” .
According to Ivanovska, the new body should become a platform for prompt decision-making in the field of language policy and protection of the state language.
“This should be a kind of headquarters where urgent decisions will be made to solve problems,” said Olena Ivanovska.
She noted that the Coordination Council should include representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security and Defense Council, and the Ministry of Education and Science.
Ivanovska emphasized that the education department is working to strengthen the linguistic stability of the younger generation.
“Such a platform for interaction between various institutions should resolve important issues, because the Ministry of Culture alone is unlikely to be able to provide answers to the global challenges facing the state language and national culture,” said the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language.
