By 2026, Ukraine plans to produce 25,000 ground combat robots, already used on the front lines for combat, logistics, and evacuation missions. The Ukrainian military claims that the use of such systems reduces risks to personnel.
The Telegraph reports this.
According to the publication, Ukraine intends to significantly increase production of ground-based robotic systems in the first half of 2026. Journalists note that such vehicles are used for reconnaissance, logistics, evacuation of the wounded, and mine laying.
The publication cited an operation involving an Ardal robot in the village of Novoselivka in the Donetsk region as one example of robots being used on the front lines. According to journalists, the robot was supposed to plant an anti-tank mine near a bridge, but after being detected, three Russian military operators changed their mission and detonated the mine, along with the enemy and the robot itself.
The K-2 brigade stated that the loss of such equipment is not critical due to the increase in the scale of production.
Ukrainian commanders call ground robotic systems the “new cavalry” because they can replace soldiers in certain combat missions.
“The main goal of using robots is to save the lives of soldiers,” said Major Alexander Afanasyev, commander of the K-2 unmanned systems battalion.
According to the military, a single mission by such robots can take up to 10 hours and cover up to 48 kilometers.
It was previously reported that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense codified and approved the new Bizon-L ground robotic system for use in the Armed Forces.
Let us recall that the ground robot of the Third Army Corps independently held its position at the front for a month and a half and held off attacks by Russian troops without infantry.
