Ukraine has received a new batch of PAC- 3 missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems . The delivery was made by Germany, which will allow it to strengthen air defense.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The agency noted that the new ammunition will help to more effectively intercept ballistic, hypersonic , and maneuverable targets.
PAC- 3 missiles operate using hit -to -kill technology – they destroy the target not with fragments, but with a direct hit.
“ PAC- 3 destroys the target not with fragments, but with a direct hit using hit -to -kill technology . Destruction of the warhead in the air reduces risks to cities and critical infrastructure,” the Ministry of Defense explained .
The agency added that the missile is capable of speeds up to 6,170 km per hour, is equipped with an active radar homing head , and can sharply change trajectory to intercept maneuvering targets.
One Patriot launcher can carry up to 16 PAC- 3 missiles , allowing it to destroy up to 16 targets without reloading .
The Ministry of Defense also emphasized that the Ukrainian air defense aims to shoot down at least 95% of missiles and drones.
It was previously reported that the Italian defense company Leonardo plans to test its latest Michelangelo air defense system in Ukraine.
