Ukraine to create Joint Rapid Reaction Forces: what is known about the new command and who will lead it

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of the Joint Rapid Reaction Forces within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The new command is intended to strengthen the capabilities of the Defense Forces and ensure a more rapid response to changes in the combat situation.

He said this during an evening video address.

Zelensky announced the signing of a decree on the creation of the Joint Rapid Reaction Forces. According to him, the new command will become one of the key elements of the reform of the assault troops.

“This should be a new component of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will combine the combat capability of assault troops, the necessary unmanned component, the necessary artillery component, and other means for the most rapid response at the front,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the president, the new structure should ensure a faster response to changes in the combat situation, strengthen the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during offensive and defensive operations, and unite modern means of warfare into a single system.

The president assigned Hero of Ukraine, Brigadier General Dmytro Voloshyn , who currently commands the 8th Corps of the Airborne Assault Troops, to lead the Joint Rapid Reaction Forces.

“Brigadier General Voloshyn is able to ensure the further development of the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this direction,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The President also announced that the reform will affect the assault force management system. According to him, during the changes it is necessary to eliminate accumulated problems, in particular those related to the attitude towards servicemen.
