Ukraine is preparing a new line of defense in the sky. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of additional helicopter groups to combat Russian drones.
The corresponding decision was made on October 13 during a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters.
“We have determined how to expand the capabilities of army aviation to protect against drones. Additional helicopter groups will be formed,” the head of state said.
According to him, Ukraine is also actively working with international partners to strengthen its air shield. This includes both increasing the number of aircraft and expanding the production of interceptor drones.
“There were reports on cooperation with companies that manufacture interceptor drones – maximum production volumes are needed,” Zelenskyy added.
This is not the first step towards strengthening air defense. Earlier, on October 10, the president announced that air defense forces are currently focused on the priority protection of 203 critical infrastructure facilities across the country.
Recall that Russia has changed the tactics of using hypersonic Kinzhal missiles . Now MiG-31 fighter-bombers can refuel in the air before launching missiles, remaining outside the range of Ukrainian early warning systems. This significantly complicates the detection and interception of air threats.
