Ukraine may tighten rules on mandatory vaccinations for children. The Verkhovna Rada has registered government bill No. 15286 “On Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases,” which provides for restrictions for children without preventive vaccinations.

According to the document , children will be enrolled in educational institutions and children’s health and recreation facilities only if they have a medical certificate confirming the absence of contraindications and vaccinations in accordance with the vaccination calendar.

At the same time, the bill provides for exceptions for children who have not been vaccinated due to medical contraindications. In such cases, the decision on attending school or kindergarten will be made by a medical advisory commission, provided that the epidemic situation remains favorable.

In the explanatory note, the authors of the document emphasize that the proposed norms take into account international practice.

“Vaccinations are mandatory in most countries of the European Union,” the document states.

Examples include Germany, where parents of unvaccinated children can be fined up to €2,500, as well as Italy and France, where children are not allowed into certain educational institutions without proof of vaccination. In Australia, families with unvaccinated children can lose part of their government benefits.

The authors of the bill believe that the new rules will help increase the level of vaccination of the population and reduce the risks of the spread of infectious diseases among children.

The document has now been submitted to parliament for consideration. If the bill is supported by MPs, the new requirements may become mandatory for Ukrainian educational and children’s recreation institutions.
