Several EU countries have pledged to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses. The new commitments were announced during an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Ireland.

This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, at a press conference after the meeting, Ukrinform reports.

According to her, EU countries continue to look for opportunities to provide Ukraine with the means to protect against Russian attacks.

Kallas stressed that Moscow has not given up on its military goals. She also drew attention to the recent strikes on Kyiv.

“Russian strikes on Kyiv in recent days have clearly shown that Moscow does not want peace,” the EU representative said.

She noted that 8.47 billion euros have already been allocated within the framework of the loan to support Ukraine. Another 6.1 billion euros have been approved, in particular to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

At the same time, Kallas acknowledged that this assistance is not enough. That is why, she said, bilateral support from individual states remains important.

“We were pleased to hear today’s announcements by member states to provide the air defense capabilities we have long requested to counter Russian missiles,” she said.

At the same time, Kallas did not specify the exact number of interceptor missiles that Ukraine should receive. According to her, the countries that have made the relevant commitments will independently announce the details of their aid packages.

As a reminder, Germany is preparing a new increase in military aid to Ukraine after the incident with a Russian drone at Leipzig airport. As early as September, Kyiv may receive additional missiles for the IRIS-T air defense systems and several thousand attack drones.
