“Ukraine will achieve peace”: Zelensky addressed Ukrainians on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Independence

President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed Ukrainians on August 24 on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. He stated that Ukraine will continue to confront Russia, strengthen its own defense industry, and seek peace on terms that do not involve giving up territories or independence.

Zelensky noted that the current celebration takes place against the backdrop of 1,643 days of full-scale war. According to him, Ukraine survived thanks to the unity of society, mutual support, and the willingness of people to defend the state.
The President thanked the Ukrainian military personnel who continue fighting and defending the country’s independence.
“I thank all our soldiers who, all these years, all these days, and right now, at this moment, are fighting so that Ukraine lives,” Zelenskyy said.
He also noted the development of Ukrainian defense technologies. According to the president, Ukraine is increasing the production of ground robotic complexes, naval drones, and long-range weapons.
Separately, Zelensky stressed the need to strengthen Ukraine’s defense against ballistic missiles. He stated that Russian missile terror should not determine the future of the state.
The President also stated that Ukraine will not agree to agreements that involve giving up Donbas.
“We will not let them seize the initiative, deceive Europe and the whole world that they just need to give up Donbas and everything will end quickly. There are no illusions. They have no faith,” Zelensky said.
According to him, Russia continues to prepare for further war, so Ukraine must strengthen its army, defense production, and sanctions pressure on Moscow.
Zelensky called for joint action by Ukraine, Europe, the United States, and other states to stop Russian aggression. He stressed that partners must provide Ukraine with the necessary capabilities to defend and deter Russia.
“We are not asking to fight for us. Give Ukraine everything to stop this war, to stop it faster than Putin can start the next one,” the president said.
The head of state also called on Europe to remain united, and China to use its influence to counter nuclear threats and the actions of dictatorial regimes.
In his address, Zelensky recalled that on August 24, 1991, Ukraine restored its independence, and on February 24, 2022, the country faced a large-scale test of its statehood.
“Thirty-five years ago, this day came. And the day when there will be peace in Ukraine will also come,” the president emphasized.
He called on Ukrainians to protect each other, the memory of the fallen defenders, and the independent state.
“Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! Glory to Ukraine!” Zelenskyy declared.
The day before, the fifth president and leader of “European Solidarity” Petro Poroshenko congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day . In a video message, he thanked all those thanks to whom Ukraine lives today and defends its future.
