Ukraine will completely abandon 3G communication: the government has named the final shutdown date

In 2030, third-generation 3G mobile communications will be permanently disabled in Ukraine.

This was reported in Economic Truth, citing a government resolution.

The document states that the frequencies currently used for 3G technology will be reoriented to modern standards, in particular 5G. This solution will ensure faster data transmission, more efficient use of spectrum, and lower costs per unit of traffic.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs believes that determining a specific deadline for turning off 3G will allow telecommunications operators to more clearly plan network modernization, avoid technological lag, and facilitate customers’ transition to modern communication standards.

It is also noted that if a certain area currently only has 3G, it will be replaced with a newer standard, and until 4G appears there, the network will not be disconnected.

It was previously reported that from January 1, 2026, Ukrainian citizens will be able to use mobile communications in the European Union at domestic rates . This became possible thanks to the European Commission’s decision to join Ukraine to the EU roaming zone.
