It is noted that Zelensky held a meeting on Ukraine’s policy towards Poland. According to him, Ukraine seeks to build good-neighborly, equal and mutually beneficial relations with Poland, based on mutual respect. The President also thanked Poland for its support for Ukraine after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.
“Protecting Ukraine’s independence directly means strengthening Poland’s independence, and the security challenges facing Europe today can be solved only through cooperation, in particular through cooperation between the free nations of our region,” Zelensky said.
Following the meeting, a decision was made on diplomatic steps, the opening of all archives of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine regarding the events of the 20th century in Volyn, as well as an increase in the number of permits for conducting search and exhumation works.
“Together with the Polish side, we must ensure greater capacity to carry out such work,” Zelenskyy said.
In addition, the parties discussed possible formats for expanding inter-society dialogue between Ukraine and Poland. The president also instructed the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Oleksandr Alferov, to prepare systemic proposals for expanding the capabilities of the institute.
“I ask the relevant government officials and the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to consider the possibility of increasing the financial and other support for the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance. Appropriate capabilities are also needed for worthy representation of Ukrainian interests,” Zelensky said.
We will remind that the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Oleksandr Alferov, stated that Ukraine recognizes the Volyn tragedy and continues the search and exhumation work of the deceased Poles . According to him, Ukraine considers these events in a broader historical context – from 1939 to 1947.
