Ukraine will receive 28 billion euros from the EU: where will the funds be directed?

The European Union plans to accelerate financing for Ukraine’s defense needs in the coming weeks. A new tranche of the large-scale loan program could be disbursed as early as early September.

This was announced by the European Commission spokesman Balazs Ujvari, reports “European Truth”.

According to him, the EU should soon agree on new payments and purchases for Ukraine.

This is the defense part of the EU’s €90 billion loan program, designed for 2026–2027. Of this amount, about €28 billion in 2026 is earmarked specifically for Ukraine’s defense needs. Another approximately €17 billion is to be allocated for budget support.

Meanwhile, the process of approving defense procurement is already underway. The European Union has approved procurement schedules for military products worth 22 billion euros out of the planned 28 billion.

Ukraine has already received 8.5 billion euros directly under this defense program.

“You will see even more approvals and even more disbursements in the coming weeks,” Uyvari said.

According to the European official, the new tranche is expected in early September. He also emphasized that the coming weeks will be particularly active in terms of financing Ukraine’s defense needs.
