Ukraine will receive a grant for the purchase of gas: what is the amount in question?

Ukraine is in final negotiations to receive a grant from one of the European countries to purchase additional gas.

This was announced by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal after a meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Odile Renaud-Basso.

“We are talking about 85 million euros through EBRD instruments for the purchase of gas. Work on the grant is already in the final stage,” Shmyhal noted.

The Minister stressed that the situation in Ukraine’s energy system remains difficult due to damage to infrastructure from Russian attacks and large-scale repair work. He thanked the EBRD for its continued financial support to Ukrenergo and Ukrhydroenergo, which helps ensure repairs, equipment upgrades, and the implementation of new solutions for the stable supply of electricity and heat to Ukrainians.

In addition, Azerbaijan has already provided Ukraine with assistance in the form of energy equipment: 12 low-voltage panels, 11 generators, 5 transformers, and 27,000 meters of cable.

Shmyhal thanked Odile Renaud-Basso and the EBRD team for their consistent support to Ukraine, which allows maintaining the stability of the energy system and restoring what was destroyed by the enemy.

As a reminder, the European Union is sending almost 450 emergency generators from strategic reserves to Ukraine amid massive Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
