Ukraine will receive a new batch of missiles to destroy Shahed

Ukraine will soon receive a large batch of AIM missiles to strengthen its air defense.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

AIM missiles have been in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces for several years. The Ukrainian military uses them from F-16 aircraft and NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems.

These missiles are most effective against enemy helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles. They implement the fire-and-forget principle and remain resistant to electronic warfare.

What AIM missiles does Ukraine use?

Today, there are about a dozen modifications of the AIM series of missiles. Ukraine actively uses at least three of them.

AIM-9 Sidewinder – a short-range missile with an infrared homing head. It is effective against helicopters and drones. The missile reaches speeds of up to 3 thousand km/h and hits targets at a distance of up to 35 km. It is equipped with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead.

AIM-120 AMRAAM is a medium-range missile with an active radar guidance system. It is capable of destroying targets beyond direct visibility, as it has its own radar. The range of the basic version reaches 75 km, modernized versions operate at a distance of up to 180 km. The missile develops a speed of up to 4.9 thousand km/h.

The AIM-7 Sparrow is one of the most powerful in the series. It uses semi-active radar guidance and destroys aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and jet drones, in particular the Shahed-234 or Geran-3. The range of destruction is up to 70 km.

It was previously reported that Canada will transfer AIM missiles to Ukraine for air defense systems.

As a reminder, Poland and Ukraine have agreed to launch joint production in the defense-industrial complex, including drones and other weapons.
