Ukraine will receive defense assistance from Latvia: what amount is involved?

The Latvian government has decided to finance defense support for Ukraine within the framework of the international initiative PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirement List), launched by NATO and the United States. The total amount of assistance will be 5 million euros.

This was reported by the Latvian Ministry of Defense.

The funding is planned for 2025. Of the total amount, 3 million euros will be provided by the Latvian Ministry of Defense, another 2 million by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The funds will be used to purchase American weapons and military equipment that has already proven its effectiveness on the battlefield.

As Minister of Defense Andris Spruds emphasized, consistent support for Ukraine is critically important for strengthening its defense capabilities, protecting its independence, and deterring Russian aggression. According to him, participation in the PURL program makes it possible to promptly provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the necessary means to maintain defensive lines and conduct counter-offensive actions.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže noted in her comments that Latvia’s inclusion in the PURL initiative has both practical and symbolic significance. She emphasized that in this way Latvia demonstrates solidarity with Ukraine and its determination to support the common security of the European region in the face of the Russian threat.

As a reminder, Latvia confirmed its readiness to join NATO’s initiative for centralized support for Ukraine, aimed at strengthening its defense capabilities in confrontation with Russia.
