By the end of 2025, Ukraine may receive the latest mobile Skyranger anti-aircraft systems, which will become an important reinforcing link in the defense of Ukrainian skies.
This was stated by Armin Papperger, CEO of the German defense concern Rheinmetall, in an interview with the German TV channel ZDF WISO.
According to him, the official signing of the contract will take place on September 10 during the international defense industry exhibition DSEI in London. The deal is expected to be worth hundreds of millions of euros.
Papperger stressed that the Skyranger system is capable of effectively protecting areas of up to 16 square kilometers (4×4 km) from drone attacks and other aerial threats. According to him, each such installation can ensure “the complete destruction of drones in its sector of responsibility.”
Skyranger is a high-tech anti-aircraft system that can be integrated onto combat vehicle platforms, including the Leopard tank chassis, making it extremely mobile and suitable for protecting critical facilities and mobile units at the front.
The company’s CEO also commented on the issue of the financial benefits of the defense business against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Papperger assured that he supports ending the war, although he recognizes the need to provide defense equipment.
“Ukrainians are experiencing extraordinary suffering. We all want peace. But in order to preserve it, countries must be able to protect themselves,” he said.
According to him, the Bundeswehr itself, the German army, is also showing interest in the Skyranger systems.
Recall that Ukraine is accelerating the supply of additional air defense systems to protect against Russian air targets.
As reported, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, reported that the Defense Forces are actively strengthening their capabilities to counter Russian Shahed attack drones. An echeloned air defense system is being created, new crews of interceptor drones are being formed, and the development of innovative technologies to protect Ukrainian skies continues.
