The United States is ready to provide Ukraine with intelligence to launch missile strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure. These are facilities located deep in the Russian rear, including oil refineries, pipelines, and power plants.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, which is cited by RBC-Ukraine, citing US government officials. According to them, President Donald Trump recently authorized intelligence services and the Pentagon to provide Kyiv with information support for planning such strikes. The US also called on NATO allies to do the same.
This is the first time the Trump administration has agreed to facilitate long-range attacks on Russian energy facilities. While the United States has previously assisted Ukraine with drone and missile strikes, sharing intelligence could significantly enhance the effectiveness of the strikes.
According to the WSJ, the goal of such actions is to reduce the Kremlin’s financial revenues from oil and limit the resources that Russia uses to wage war.
In addition, Washington is considering the possibility of transferring missiles with a range of up to 800 km to Ukraine, including Tomahawk and Barracuda. A final decision on the supply has not yet been made. According to American officials, they are currently awaiting written instructions from the White House to transfer the necessary information.
As a reminder, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard issued an official instruction prohibiting the transfer of data regarding peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to US allies.
As previously reported, US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff stated that the United States has never denied Ukraine access to intelligence needed for defense.
