Ukraine will train Gulf countries to shoot down drones: when will the first group of experts leave?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will send a group of experts to the Persian Gulf countries to train the military to shoot down attack drones. The first group of Ukrainian specialists is scheduled to leave for the region on March 9.
This was reported by the press service of the President’s Office.
According to the president, several groups of Ukrainian experts and military personnel will be sent to the Persian Gulf countries to help local defense forces master methods of countering drones.
“The first group of experts and military personnel will leave on Monday. There will be several groups,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President also noted that countries in the region are interested in purchasing Ukrainian means to combat drones. At the same time, Ukraine is ready to transfer such systems only within the scope that are not used by its own defense forces.
“Countries in the region are very interested in this, and Ukraine is ready to supply means, but only the volume that our forces do not use,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine is counting on mutual cooperation with the countries of the Persian Gulf.
“You know the shortage of some funds in us, we understand the shortage of some funds in the Gulf countries. That is, we are talking about this track as well. It is too early to say about other details,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President added that additional details of cooperation may emerge after Ukrainian experts arrive in the region and assess the situation on the ground.
It was previously reported that representatives of the US Department of Defense visited Ukraine to discuss the possible use of Ukrainian experience in countering drones . The point is the development of cheaper means of intercepting drones that can be used by the American side.
By the way,the US has officially asked Ukraine to share its experience in intercepting Iranian Shahed strike drones. This is because Iran’s rapid counterattack using cheap and easy-to-manufacture drones after the start of the US-Israeli military campaign demonstrated the vulnerability of the US and its regional allies.
As a reminder, the US and Middle Eastern countries are negotiating with Ukraine to purchase interceptor drones to repel drone attacks from Iran.
