Ukraine within reach of Iranian missiles

Ukraine within reach of Iranian missiles

Iran is building up an arsenal of long-range missiles and drones, which are theoretically capable of hitting not only Middle Eastern countries, but also parts of Europe, including Ukraine.

This is evidenced by open data on the characteristics of Iranian missile systems.

Tehran’s longest-range ballistic missiles are considered to be Khorramshahr, Sejjil, Ghadr and Emad. Their claimed range is 1,700-2,000 km, and in the case of Khorramshahr – up to 3,000 km with a smaller warhead. The standard Khorramshahr warhead weighs up to 1,800 kg.

From northwestern Iran, such missiles could theoretically hit Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. If the 3,000 km range is confirmed, parts of Central Europe, including Germany and Italy, would also be under potential threat.

A separate danger is posed by Soumar cruise missiles with a claimed range of 2,000-3,000 km. Although their combat use is limited, their characteristics allow them to cover significant distances.

At the same time, Iran is actively developing drones as the main tool for long-range attacks. The Shahed-136 has a range of up to 2,500 km. The Arash-2 has a range of up to 1,600 km, and the Karrar jet has a range of about 1,000 km.

To strike Europe, drones would have to cross the airspace of several countries – Iraq, Syria, Jordan or Turkey. However, the sheer range of the flight allows them to potentially reach the Balkans and the Black Sea region.

European countries are deploying missile defense systems. Romania operates the Aegis Ashore complex with SM-3 missiles. Germany put the Arrow 3 system into pre-operational readiness in late 2025. American destroyers with missile defense elements are on duty in the Mediterranean Sea.

Despite this, experts emphasize: the range of Iranian missiles already exceeds the limits of a regional threat. And in the event of an escalation of the conflict, the risks for Ukraine and parts of Europe no longer seem theoretical.

It was previously reported that the pro-Iranian Hezbollah group fired rockets at northern Israel on the night of March 2.

Recall that on February 28, Israel carried out preemptive strikes on Iran, and also attacked Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon . A state of emergency was declared throughout the country. It is noted that the strikes on Iran are a joint operation between Israel and the United States . After that, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States had launched a military campaign in Iran .
