Ukraine won bronze at the 2026 Paralympics in the 20-kilometer cross-country ski race

Ukrainian athlete Oleksandra Kononova won a bronze medal in the women’s 20 km standing cross-country skiing event at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Italy. This award was Ukraine’s 18th medal at the tournament.
This was reported by the Paralympic Committee of Ukraine.
It is noted that on March 15, at the 2026 Paralympic Games in the Italian region of Milan-Cortina, a women’s 20 km standing cross-country ski race took place. Ukrainian athlete Oleksandra Kononova finished third and won a bronze medal.
Kononova showed a result of 48:43.4 and lost to the winner by more than 1 minute. The race was won by the representative of the United States, Sydney Peterson, with a result of 47:25.8, and the silver medal was won by the Norwegian, Wilde Nielsen, who covered the distance in 48:39.7.
Two more Ukrainian athletes finished the race in the top five . Lyudmila Lyashenko finished in 4th place with a time of 49:17.1, and Iryna Bui took 5th place with a time of 50:12.7. Bohdana Konashuk finished the race in 9th place with a time of 52:36.4.
For Alexandra Kononova, this award was her 5th at the 2026 Paralympic Games. She previously also won 3 medals in parabiathlon and silver in the mixed relay in para skiing.
The day before, the Ukrainian team won a silver medal in the 4×2.5 km mixed ski relay. The Ukrainian team consisted of Pavlo Bal, Taras Rad, Oleksandra Kononova and Lyudmila Lyashenko. In the last stage of the relay, Lyashenko was in first place, but in the final meters of the distance she lost to the US team and finished second.
In the open 4×2.5 km relay, the Ukrainian team took 4th place. The following athletes competed for the Ukrainian national team:

- Hryhoriy Vovchynskyi
- Seraphim Dragoon
In the final stage of the fight for the bronze medal, Dragun lost to his rival from Norway by only 0.2 seconds.
According to the results of the 8th day of the 2026 Paralympic Games, Ukraine was in 7th place in the medal standings. At that time, the Ukrainian team had 17 awards:
- 3 gold;
- 7 silver;
- 7 bronze.
After Kononova won the bronze medal, Ukraine’s total number of awards increased to 18: 3 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze.
It is worth noting that March 15 is the final day of the 2026 Paralympics , the program of which includes 20 km cross-country skiing, men’s alpine skiing slalom, and the para-hockey final.
By the way, the Ukrainian national team won a silver medal in the mixed relay in para-skiing at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina. This award became the 17th medal of the Ukrainian team at the current Paralympics.
