Ukraine has completed only 15% of the priority reforms needed to advance to the European Union, causing disappointment among European officials.
This was stated on the air of “Pryamoy” by Nina Yuzhanina, a member of parliament from “European Solidarity”, commenting on the Guardian publication regarding the disruption of the deadlines for the “Kachki-Kos” plan.
According to her, at the current pace of preparing laws by the government and their consideration by parliament, this process could stretch for decades.
“At the current pace of the government’s preparation of draft laws and the parliament’s consideration of them, we will be moving for another 10 years. Therefore, there must be some kind of turning point, a turning point, a turning point situation,” Yuzhanina emphasized.
One of the main problems, the politician considers the delay in restarting the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). The functionality of this law enforcement agency currently does not meet real tasks. The work of the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP) has also been criticized, whose draft law on the anti-corruption strategy turned out to be weak, which is why deputies of the Verkhovna Rada are forced to register alternative documents.
On the eve, all European Union countries supported the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU. This decision paves the way for a new stage of the negotiation process on the future membership of the two countries in the European Union.
It should be noted that the first negotiation cluster covers the basic issues on which the European integration process is built. In particular, it concerns the rule of law, the judicial system, the rights and freedoms of citizens, and democratic institutions.
The European Union believes that, with sufficient political will, Ukraine can complete technical negotiations on EU accession in about four years . At the same time, European officials note that about 15% of the reforms stipulated in the agreed membership preparation plan have now been implemented.
