Ukraine’s accession to the European Union: when will negotiations on opening clusters start?

After November 1, all thematic areas of Ukraine’s integration into the European Union will be ready for official launch. According to EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, if not for the resistance from Hungary, which opposes this step, the negotiation process could have started earlier.

She made this statement during an event organized by Renew Europe in Brussels, a LIGA.net correspondent reports.

Marta Kos stressed the need to protect Europe from Russian aggression, which Ukraine, together with Moldova, is currently actively resisting. She expressed hope that EU leaders will soon find a common solution and open clusters related to these countries’ accession to the Union.

“I believe that leaders will soon make a decision to open clusters, because we are fully ready for this. After November 1, all directions will be open,” the European Commissioner emphasized.

She added that this opening will be a significant step for both countries – Ukraine and Moldova. At the same time, Kos noted that it is Hungary’s position that remains the main obstacle to the start of negotiations with Ukraine. If this country had not blocked the process, the negotiations would have already started.

Recall thatUkraine may become a member of the European Union despite the presence of occupied territories, following the example of some states that are already part of the EU.

As reported, Slovakia has assured Ukraine that it will not stand in the way of its European integration . Prime Minister Robert Fico stated this during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko on October 17 in Kosice. The talks between the government officials covered a wide range of issues, from energy and defense cooperation to labor migration, sanctions and frozen Russian assets.
