Ukraine’s energy system is experiencing the most difficult period since 2022 – Shmyhal
Today, January 22, Ukraine recorded the most difficult day for the power system since the large-scale blackout in November 2022.
This was reported by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, the critical situation was caused by a combination of factors – constant shelling, damage to generation equipment, destroyed distribution networks and transformers, as well as continuous enemy attacks throughout the country’s energy system.
Shmyhal stressed that the situation remains extremely difficult, and energy companies are forced to continue to use emergency shutdowns. To preserve the integrity of the energy system, NPC Ukrenergo has introduced special emergency shutdown schedules.
The most difficult situation was recorded in Kyiv, Kyiv region, and Dnipro region.
Shmyhal reported that 165 repair crews worked during the day to restore the heat supply in Kyiv, and another 83 are taking over the night shift. The work is significantly complicating security conditions – this evening, the 2,000th air raid alert since the beginning of martial law was sounded in the capital.
The minister also called on Ukrainians to trust only official sources of information and not to succumb to fakes and manipulations that the enemy spreads to destabilize society.
As previously reported, emergency power outages without clear schedules have been ongoing in many regions of Ukraine for almost two weeks. A full return to stable schedules may take several years.
As a reminder, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Kyiv may switch to the predicted power outage schedules in the coming days.
