Ukraine’s real GDP in January-February 2026 decreased by 1.2% due to the consequences of Russian attacks and abnormal cold weather.

This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to Minister Oleksiy Sobolev.

According to him, the greatest losses were suffered by energy, mining, metallurgy, and transport.

Energy restrictions forced some businesses to suspend production, which affected overall economic activity.

At the same time, the government is recording positive dynamics in certain sectors. Domestic trade grew by 13%, construction by 3%, and the processing industry is showing recovery.

Exports of goods are also increasing: in January – by 1.7%, in February – by 3.6%.

The minister noted that improving weather conditions and business expectations could contribute to economic recovery in the near future.

Key challenges remain a shortage of personnel, high energy prices, and logistics problems.

As previously reported, by the end of 2025, it is expected that the nominal GDP of Ukraine will amount to almost 9 billion hryvnias.

As a reminder, the National Bank has worsened its economic forecast. Inflation will decline for longer, and the economy will recover more slowly.
