Ukrainian detained after death of relative of Prince of Monaco: what is known about the charges

A 42-year-old Ukrainian man has been taken into custody in Monaco in connection with the death of 29-year-old Antoine de Massy, a relative of Prince Albert II. The man is accused of involuntary manslaughter and failure to render aid to a person in danger.

This was reported by AFP with reference to the Monaco prosecutor’s office.

The body of Antoine de Massy was found on October 25 near the Larvotto district. The search for him began after his relatives lost contact with him and contacted the police.

An autopsy found the man died from a fall of about 13 meters. Investigators believe he may have fallen from Larvotto Boulevard onto the area behind one of the houses. Police are still investigating what exactly happened.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers identified a 42-year-old Ukrainian man who had been in contact with the deceased. According to Monaco Life, the man has lived in Monaco for about 30 years.

During interrogation, the Ukrainian denied the charges and later refused to answer the investigating judge’s questions.

Prosecutors have not yet explained what role the man may have played in de Massy’s death. Investigators also do not rule out that involuntary manslaughter and failure to render aid may relate to different moments in the incident.

The investigation is currently ongoing, and the court has not yet established the guilt of the Ukrainian.

Antoine de Massy was the grandson of Princess Antoinette, the older sister of Prince Rainier III, who was the father of the current ruler of Monaco, Albert II.

Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased.
