Ukrainian drones have attacked nearly a third of Russia’s major oil refineries since early August.

Since early August, Ukrainian drones have attacked 10 of Russia’s 34 major oil refineries. This represents approximately a third of the industry’s facilities.

Bloomberg reports this.

According to the agency’s calculations, based on public statements from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides, the targets were primarily refineries affiliated with Russia’s largest oil companies. Most of these facilities have already been attacked this year.

The new strikes are putting additional pressure on the Russian fuel market. In particular, due to previous attacks and the shutdown of individual plants, Russia has already faced problems with fuel supplies. Reuters reports that Russian seaborne exports of petroleum products fell by 33.3% month-on-month in July.

A separate example is the Orsk Oil Refinery, which was completely shut down after the Ukrainian attack, and its restoration, according to Russian authorities, could take up to six months.

Bloomberg suggests that further cuts in oil refining could trigger a new rise in fuel prices in Russia. This potentially creates an additional political problem for the Kremlin ahead of parliamentary elections in Russia next month.
