Chongar Bridge Hit as Ukraine Targets Key Route to Crimea

Ukrainian Special Operations Forces carried out a drone strike on a bridge near Chongar linking temporarily occupied Crimea with the Kherson region, damaging the bridge deck and forcing occupation authorities to suspend traffic.

This was reported by the independent Russian outlet Astra, citing a statement from the occupation administration.

It was reported that following the overnight drone attack, traffic through the Dzhankoy checkpoint was suspended. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes through Armyansk and Perekop. No timeline has yet been announced for the resumption of traffic.

Earlier, the 3rd Separate Special Operations Regiment reported that its UAV operators had established aerial control over a portion of the land corridor used by Russian forces to support their forces in occupied Crimea. Specifically, the Melitopol-Chonhar route is under attack.

According to the Special Operations Forces, drones are systematically destroying enemy equipment and targeting logistics infrastructure, which has already hampered the supply of fuel and supplies to Russian troops on the peninsula.

Against this backdrop, traffic across the Crimean Bridge was also temporarily closed on June 7. Russian military bloggers acknowledge that the range and intensity of Ukrainian drone strikes against the occupying forces’ logistics routes continue to increase.
