Ukrainian journalist Mykhailo Tkach was detained in Vienna.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Austria has asked the Austrian side to explain the circumstances of the detention of Ukrainska Pravda journalist Mykhailo Tkach. The Ukrainian consul was granted access to him and held a conversation.
This was reported by Ukrainska Pravda, citing the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgiy Tykhyi.
According to him, the Ukrainian side learned of the journalist’s detention and immediately began to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
“The Ukrainian Embassy in Austria has already contacted the Austrian side with a request for an explanation of the circumstances of this detention. The consul has already contacted their Austrian counterparts and formally requested access to the detained citizen,” Tykhyi reported.
The Ukrainian consul subsequently gained access to Tkach and spoke with him. Meanwhile, the journalist remains in the custody of Austrian law enforcement.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the situation is being monitored by the Ministry, the Department of Consular Service, and the Ukrainian Embassy in Austria.
Mykhailo Tkach was detained in Vienna on October 8 while on an editorial assignment related to the search for fugitive Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
According to Ukrainska Pravda, the journalist was in Austria with his colleague Yaroslav Bondarenko. Initially, the editorial staff reported that they did not know Bondarenko’s whereabouts and had no direct connection to Tkach.
As a reminder, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced that he had signed a notice of suspicion for NABU Director Semyon Krivonos .
As is known, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko submitted his resignation on September 7. He called it a conscious political decision.
As a reminder, the charges against Kravchenko are related to a high-profile corruption scandal that arose as a result of the NABU and SAPO’s special operation “Carthage.” As part of this investigation, anti-corruption agencies uncovered a criminal organization that was “protecting” a network of fraudulent call centers.
According to investigators, the center of this scheme was Serhiy Kropiva, the deputy head of the International Cooperation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, who had friendly relations with Ruslan Kravchenko. Krapiva was arrested on September 4. The following day, September 5, Serhiy Krapiva was taken into custody .
