In Vienna schools, Ukrainian will be available as a second foreign language as part of the educational process from September 2026. Teaching is planned to begin in two educational institutions, provided there are a sufficient number of applications from students.
This was reported by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Austria.
The opportunity to study Ukrainian as a second foreign language is provided for high school students. It is proposed to start studying in the 5th grade of Oberstufe, which corresponds to the 9th year of study.
Ukrainian will be taught in two Viennese schools. These are BRO: das BORG 3, located at Landstraßer Hauptstraße 70, and BRW: das GRG15 at Diefenbachgasse 19.
A prerequisite for introducing Ukrainian into the curriculum is a sufficient number of applications from students. In this regard, the Ukrainian community in Vienna was encouraged to actively submit applications when choosing a second foreign language.
The diplomatic institution emphasized that the introduction of the Ukrainian language in Vienna’s schools is an important step in preserving the language, culture, and national identity of Ukrainian children abroad.
Recall that on December 3, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law to remove Russian from the list of languages requiring protection.
