Since the beginning of 2025, Ukrainian border guards have recorded a sharp increase in attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus. Between January 1 and August 1, at least 911 men aged 18 to 60 were detained. This is twice the total number of detainees in the previous three years of full-scale invasion.

This was reported by Investigation.Info with reference to data from the State Border Service of Ukraine.

For comparison:

In 2022, border guards recorded 61 violators,

In 2023, only 26,

In 2024, there were already 336 detainees.

Thus, the number of attempts to enter Belarus in 2025 increased significantly — and became unprecedented since the beginning of the war.

The largest number of detainees was in the Rivne region, where 531 men were detained during the full-scale war. It was followed by the Zhytomyr region (484 detainees), Volyn (281), and Kyiv region (38).

It is noteworthy that the Volyn region was the only one from which people tried to illegally cross into Belarus in the first year of the full-scale invasion — 2022.

According to border guards, the number of people wishing to avoid mobilization or leave for Belarus is growing, and the trend is intensifying against the backdrop of general mobilization tension in the country.

As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is initiating amendments to the Criminal Code, whichpropose establishing criminal liability for violation of the established terms of stay outside the country by military conscripts.

As reported, law enforcement officers uncovered a large-scale corruption scheme in the Central Medical and Social Expert Commission (MSEC), where officials, together with doctors, organized the illegal granting of disability groups to men of draft age . Using forged documents, they provided fictitious certificates, issued pensions, and evaded military service.
