Ukrainian plane caught fire while landing in Japan: what is known

A Ukrainian cargo plane, the An-124 Ruslan, caught fire while landing at Japan’s Chubu International Airport. The fire was quickly extinguished, no one was injured, and the aircraft was able to reach its parking spot on its own.

This is reported by the Japanese broadcasting company NHK.

The incident occurred on October 22 at around 7:20 p.m. local time. Air traffic controllers noticed signs of a fire as the plane was landing and notified emergency services. The fire was quickly extinguished.

After the incident, the runway was temporarily closed for 15 minutes for inspection. The airport later resumed normal operations.

The causes of the fire and possible damage to the aircraft are currently being clarified. There is also no information about the cargo on board. Antonov Airlines has not yet commented on the incident.

According to NHK, the Ukrainian cargo plane began operating flights to Chubu Airport about a month ago.

As a reminder, on August 5, a drone with explosives was found near a Ukrainian An-124 transport plane at Leipzig Airport. After analyzing camera footage, law enforcement officers determined that the drone attacked the wing of the plane, where fuel tanks are usually located. The explosive on the drone did not detonate for unknown reasons. The An-124, near which the drone was found, was carrying military cargo.
