Ukrainian special services eliminate one of the perpetrators of Shapoval’s murder
In temporarily occupied Donetsk on July 27, the Defense Forces eliminated Oleg Shutov, whom Ukrainian special services consider the direct perpetrator of the murder of Major General Maksym Shapoval. Shutov was also involved in the murder of SBU Colonel Oleksandr Kharaberyush and attempts on the lives of other Ukrainian officers.
This is reported by LB.ua.
According to the publication’s sources, Shutov was eliminated as a result of a special operation by Ukrainian special services in the occupied territory. An explosive device was planted in the Subaru car in which he arrived at the Dynamo sports complex in the Leninskyi district of Donetsk.
Local occupation information sources reported the incident as a “night UAV attack, as a result of which the head of the wrestling federation was injured.” According to LB.ua sources, Shutov was actually killed in a car explosion. Information about Shutov’s elimination was not made public immediately after the operation for security reasons – until the return of the intelligence and combat group to the territory of Ukraine.
Oleg Shutov was the president of the Judo and Sambo Association of the so-called “DPR”, as well as an operational officer of the special operations center of the so-called MGB “DPR”, which was subordinate to the Russian special services. In April 2024, the occupiers liquidated the MGB “DPR”, and its functions were transferred to the local FSB department.
Shutov’s involvement in the murder of Maksym Shapoval was first publicly announced on April 19, 2019 by the then head of the SBU, Vasyl Hrytsak.
“Shutov Oleg Mykolayovych, born March 9, 1966, a resident of the city of Donetsk. It was this person who planted an explosive device under the car of Ukrainian intelligence general Maksym Shapoval on June 26, 2017. Today, for the first time, we are publishing data on the perpetrator of this terrorist attack,” Hrytsak said.
According to his information, Shutov rented an apartment in the house where Shapoval lived, as well as a parking space next to the place where the general left his car.
It is worth recalling that on June 27, 2017, Maksym Shapoval died as a result of a car explosion in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv. After committing the crime, Shutov, according to Hrytsak, about an hour later packed his things in a rented apartment and left Kyiv for Russia, and from there to Donbas. Shutov is also linked to the explosion of the car of SBU Colonel Oleksandr Kharaberyush, who died on March 31, 2017 in Mariupol.
According to the SBU, the organizers of both murders were Lieutenant General Dmitry Minaev, head of the counterintelligence operations department of the FSB of the Russian Federation, and his subordinate, head of the special operations center of the “MDB DPR”, Vasily Yevdokimov, nicknamed “Lenin”.
