The SBU and the State Security Service of Ukraine foiled the preparation of a terrorist attack against one of the leaders of the Russian opposition movement, who arrived in Ukraine for Independence Day.

This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Operational and investigative actions are ongoing regarding the planning of the attack. The agencies are not disclosing other details of the case at this time.

At the same time, on the morning of September 2, reports appeared on social networks about an alleged shootout between GUR and SBU officers in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv. The authors of such reports linked the event to the disappearance of Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander for combat work of the “Russian Volunteer Corps”. There is currently no official confirmation of this information.

The day before, the RDK announced that Kaplunov had been kidnapped near his home a few days ago. After that, representatives of the corps contacted the State Police, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the State Bureau of Investigation.

Kaplunov’s lawyer, Taras Borovsky, released a video from the scene and stated that law enforcement officers arrived at the soldier’s house. After that, his comrades arrived “on alarm,” and later shots were fired.

In particular, the SBU and the State Security Service are currently not providing additional details regarding the circumstances of the incident.
