Ukrainian swimmer Sheremet wins Euro 2026 gold with a new Ukrainian record

Ukrainian swimmer Nikita Sheremet won the gold medal at the 2026 European Championships in the 50-meter freestyle. He finished with a time of 21.13 seconds, setting a new Ukrainian record.

Sheremet came first in the final swim, ahead of all his rivals. This is the first gold medal for Ukraine in swimming at this year’s European Aquatics Championships. Another Ukrainian, Vladislav Bukhov, took 5th place with a time of 21.58 seconds.

• Andrej Barna (Serbia) — 21.37 sec;
• Kristof Milak (Hungary) — 21.46 sec;
• Vladislav Bukhov (Ukraine) — 21.58 sec;

Sheremet’s time also became the 14th fastest time in history in the 50-meter freestyle.

Sheremet’s gold became the 3rd highest award for the Ukrainian national team and the 7th medal overall at Euro 2026 in aquatic sports.

Earlier, Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh won the gold medal at the 2026 European Championships in Birmingham . For the 24-year-old athlete, this is the third consecutive European high jump title.

At the same time, the leader of the Ukrainian rhythmic gymnastics team, Taisiya Onofriychuk, became the 2026 world champion in the final of the hoop exercise.
