Ukrainians will be able to exchange their driver’s license in Germany without exams
Ukrainians in Germany will be able to exchange Ukrainian driver’s licenses for German ones without retaking the theoretical and practical exams. Ukraine has been added to the list of countries whose licenses are recognized for simplified exchange.
This is stated in the Federal Law Gazette of Germany.
Previously, drivers from countries outside the European Union usually had to take a theoretical and practical exam to exchange their license.
The German Ministry of Transport explained that the Ukrainian driver’s license system and their categories are comparable to European ones.
To exchange your license, Ukrainians need to contact the driver’s license office at their place of residence – Führerscheinstelle or Fahrerlaubnisbehörde. They will check your documents and the right to drive the appropriate category of vehicle.
In particular, holders of Ukrainian category B licenses will not need to retake the theoretical and practical exams.
Simplified exchange was provided for categories A1, A, B, BE, C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE. At the same time, categories B1 for quadricycles and T for tractors were not included in the list.
For truck and bus categories, drivers will need to confirm compliance with health and vision requirements.
There is a separate exception. If a driver received a category C or D in Ukraine without a category B, then to obtain a German category B, he will still have to pass a theoretical and practical exam.
In addition, the Ukrainian language has been added to the list of languages in which you can take the theoretical exam for a driver’s license in Germany.
