Uman is preparing for Rosh Hashanah: the first Hasidim have already arrived in the city

The first Hasidic pilgrims are already arriving in Uman for the Rosh Hashanah celebration. In total, the city is expecting about 40,000 pilgrims this year. The mass influx of pilgrims is still ahead.

This was reported by the United Jewish Community of Ukraine.

“The Rosh Hashanah holiday will begin on the evening of September 11 and will last until the evening of September 13. A significant number of pilgrims traditionally arrive in Uman in advance,” the community noted.

Security measures are being tightened in the city in connection with the arrival of pilgrims. From September 4 to 17, a special regime of entry, exit, and movement of transport will be in effect in Uman. Additional checkpoints will operate in certain directions, and traffic will be restricted on some streets.

The main reason for the pilgrimage is the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav. He was buried in Uman in 1810. Followers of Bratslav Hasidism consider praying at his grave during Rosh Hashanah an important spiritual tradition.

This year, about 40,000 Hasidim from around the world are expected to arrive. The first about 2,000 pilgrims have already arrived in the city.
