Umerov and Klymenko will receive new areas of work in the National Security and Defense Council: what will they be responsible for?
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the renewal of the principles of the work of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the distribution of key areas between Rustem Umerov and Ihor Klymenko. The head of state instructed to prepare the relevant decrees next week after the planned meetings in the United States.

According to the president, during the meeting, the parameters of the NSDC’s further work were determined and the principles of its activities were updated.
Zelenskyy reported that Rustem Umerov will be responsible for communication with international partners , negotiating direction, promoting security cooperation, developing interaction between the intelligence communities of Ukraine and partner states, as well as implementing the Drone Deals programs and the Ukrainian anti-ballistic program “Freya”.
At the same time, as the president noted, taking into account Ihor Klymenko’s experience in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the internal direction in the work of the NSDC will be strengthened .
“Given Ihor Klymenko’s experience in the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the NSDC’s work will include an increased component of domestic activities for the sake of Ukraine’s stability, coordination between defense and security structures, as well as countering such challenges as cyber threats from the Russian side and the activities of criminal networks,” Zelensky said.
The President also announced that he had instructed to prepare the relevant decrees for signing next week after the planned meetings in the United States.
Recall that on July 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had offered former Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko the position of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine . A corresponding decree on the appointment is already being prepared.
