North Korea has drawn 11,000 soldiers from Kim Jong-un’s elite contingent into the war against Ukraine.
This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov during a conversation with journalists.
“Russia’s use of the elite North Korean contingent indicates not only a deepening dependence on totalitarian regimes, but also real problems with the mobilization reserve. Together with our partners, we are monitoring these threats and will respond accordingly,” Umerov said.
Fighters from the “personal reserve” of the Kim Jong-un regime, who meet high standards, have been sent to Ukraine. These units have already suffered significant losses.
Umerov noted that after signing the agreements, Russia is trying to use the DPRK for its own purposes. These are “military guarantees” between states that provide for mutual assistance.
According to available information, Kim Jong-un was considering the possibility of transferring an additional contingent to Russia. But this would deplete the DPRK’s strategic reserve.
As reported, while the international community is tightening sanctions against Russia, the Kremlin is finding new ways to circumvent isolation – through an alliance with one of the most totalitarian regimes in the world. North Korea is not only supplying Russia with missiles and soldiers for the war against Ukraine, but also sending massive numbers of labor migrants to Russia . This process is taking place despite UN sanctions and against the backdrop of a massive labor shortage in Russia.
It should be noted that North Korea is actively profiting from Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to a recent report by the South Korean Institute for Defense Analysis (KIDA), North Korea’s participation in this aggression has already brought it over $20 billion in economic benefits.
