Food prices are rising rapidly in most countries. Meat and vegetable oils saw the biggest price increases worldwide in July.
This is stated in a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Meat prices in July were 1.2% higher than in June and 6% higher than in 2025, such figures are record highs.
The reasons for the increase in prices are:
- rising prices for beef and lamb;
- rising prices for poultry meat.
In addition, vegetable oil prices increased by more than 7% and reached a three-year high.
The growth was due to higher purchase prices for palm, soybean and sunflower oil.
It is noted that prices for sunflower oil have increased due to a seasonal reduction in supplies in the Black Sea region, including from Ukraine.
However, grain prices decreased by 0.8% per month and by 3.8% per year.
Export prices for barley and maize increased, while prices for sorghum and wheat decreased. Drought conditions in Eastern Europe and parts of Ukraine affected international maize prices.
According to the UN, the overall price index for all food products in July 2025 increased by 1.6% compared to June.
It was previously reported that prices for sunflower and sunflower oil in Ukraine exceed world prices due to low stocks, but the new season may reduce export demand .
It is worth noting that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has exported 15 million tons of Ukrainian grain from the occupied territories .
