Police in Mexico have struggled to find a missing woman after the use of doctored photos from social media. The mismatch between her appearance and her real appearance made the search difficult, but she was later found alive.
This is reported by Oddity Central .
This is 30-year-old Grecia Guadalupe Orantes Mendoza, who disappeared on the night of April 12 in the municipality of Ocozocoautla de Espinosa, Chiapas state. After relatives appealed, law enforcement officers activated the “Alba Protocol” – an emergency response mechanism to search for missing women.
As part of the search, police used photos of the woman from her social media to create leads and distributed them among local residents and on the Internet. At the same time, acquaintances of the missing woman noted that in these photos she looks different due to the use of filters.

This led to difficulties with identification, as the edited images did not match their real appearance. On social networks, users also noted the difficulty of finding a person based on such photos.
The woman was found alive a few days later. She was found on the highway between Ocozocoautla and the municipality of Hikipilas, after which she is under police surveillance. The circumstances of her disappearance have not been disclosed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
Security consultant David Saucedo noted that a similar problem has been reported before during the application of the “Alba Protocol”.
“Detective materials are often created based on photos with filters or using artificial intelligence tools, which reduces their effectiveness,” he said.
This case has sparked a discussion about the use of social media images in search campaigns and their correspondence to the real appearance of people.
