Unique footage from space: NASA showed the Earth and Moon from new angles

NASA has released new images of the Earth and Moon taken by astronauts during the Artemis II mission.

NASA reports this.

Astronauts are taking photos of space using conventional cameras, including a Nikon D5, as well as GoPros and smartphones. Most of the footage was taken by mission commander Reed Wiseman.

One of the most famous images is called “Hello, World.” It was taken when the ship was approximately the same distance from the Earth and the Moon. The photo shows the aurora borealis and zodiacal lights, and the Earth itself appears upside down.

Other images show the line between day and night, known as the terminator, running across the planet.

NASA also released a photo of Orientale Basin, a large crater on the far side of the Moon that astronauts saw for the first time with the naked eye during the mission.

The photo shows dark areas of ancient lava flows, as well as the Tycho crater – one of the youngest on the Moon, whose age is about 108 million years.

The crew continues to observe the Moon during its approach and flyby.
