On the morning of October 29, weather conditions in the Carpathian highlands deteriorated sharply. Visibility was limited on Mount Pip Ivan Chornohorsky, along with snow and strong winds.

According to the “Mountain Rescuers of the Carpathian Region” page, as of 9:20 AM, visibility at the summit was less than 30 meters, with a southwesterly wind of 15-17 m/s and a temperature of -3°C. Fresh snowdrifts were up to 80 centimeters deep in places.

The State Emergency Service warns that further worsening weather conditions are expected in the mountains on October 29–30, with wind gusts reaching 17–22 m/s. A Level I (yellow) alert has been issued.

“If you’re planning a mountain hike, exercise extreme caution. Strong winds pose a risk of falling trees, reduce visibility, and significantly complicate travel along the trails. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and download the “Mountain Rescue” mobile app,” the rescuers note.

Pop Ivan Chornohirsky is one of the highest peaks of the Ukrainian Carpathians, located on the border of the Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions.

According to weather forecasters, partly cloudy weather is expected in the Ivano-Frankivsk region on October 29. Light rain is expected in lowlands, sleet is expected in the mountains, and precipitation and strong gusts of wind are possible in some areas during the day. Daytime temperatures will range from 12°C to 14°C.
