Updated ranking of candidates for the 2026 Ballon d’Or: who is in the lead

After the final matches of the 2026 World Cup, the betting platform Polymarket has updated its ranking of the main contenders for the prestigious 2026 Ballon d’Or football award. The new favorite is the striker of the French national team and Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe.
According to the platform’s estimates, Mbappé’s chances of winning are currently 26%.
England captain and Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane is in second place, with a 23% chance of winning the award.
The third place is shared by two footballers. Argentina captain Lionel Messi and current Ballon d’Or winner, Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele, each have an 11% chance of winning.
Recall that it was Dembele who won the Ballon d’Or in 2025.
Currently, the ranking of the main contenders for the award looks like this:
