The plane of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen was forced to land on paper maps in Plovdiv on August 31 after losing electronic navigation.

This is reported by the Financial Times .

According to three officials, the incident is suspected of possible Russian interference: GPS in the airport area stopped working, causing the plane to circle above the airport for about an hour, and the pilot was forced to land manually.

Bulgaria’s air traffic control service has confirmed the GPS outages, noting that there has been a noticeable increase in jamming and spoofing of signals since February 2022, creating operational problems for aircraft and ground systems.
