This weekend, American and Russian officials will meet in Miami to discuss a possible end to the war between Ukraine and Russia.
This is reported by Politico, citing its own sources.
According to the publication, during the negotiations, the US administration plans to present the results of the last round of peace talks in Berlin to the Russian side and try to negotiate an updated plan to end the war.
The Russian delegation is expected to include Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The American side will be represented by the Trump administration’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
A Ukrainian delegation led by National Security Advisor Rustem Umerov is scheduled to arrive in Miami later this week for talks with Witkoff and Kushner. There is currently no confirmation of trilateral talks involving the United States, Ukraine and Russia, Axios sources said.
Separately, the US intends to convene a group of military advisers supporting Ukraine to discuss technical aspects of security and territorial issues. According to Politico, the meeting in Miami between the US and Russia will be held as a separate event.
Meanwhile, in Europe, leaders have been working for the past two weeks to agree on security guarantees for Kyiv. Among the proposed measures are the creation of a demilitarized zone along the front line and training of Ukrainian forces to monitor the ceasefire.
As one European official noted, coalition forces will likely be tasked with using aircraft and drones to monitor the front line, while some troops will be deployed in western Ukraine to support the rebuilding of the armed forces rather than for direct frontline service.
As a reminder, Ukraine and the United States plan to hold a new round of negotiations in preparation for a potential peace agreement . The consultations will involve working groups and military experts who will analyze maps.
The United States, Ukraine, and key European countries have reportedly made significant progress in intensive talks on ending the war, security guarantees, and the future reconstruction of Ukraine. The American side calls the talks “very positive,” and the package of security guarantees the strongest ever proposed.
